The Process Of TIG and Argon Welding is explained below in detail

Tungsten inert gas welding or TIG Welding Machine became an overnight success in the early forties and was used mainly for joining magnesium and aluminum. Making use of an inert gas shield instead of a slag to protect the welding, the process was a highly attractive replacement for gas and manual metal arc welding. TIG has played a very big role in the acceptance of aluminum for high quality welding and structural applications.
The process of TIG or Argon Gas welding is to employ direct current with positive or negative electrode or alternating current. In general, alternating current is preferred for welding aluminum and magnesium. Direct current negative is preferred for welding most other forms of materials and for automatic welding of thick aluminum. Thin and light magnesium sometimes is welded with direct current electrode positive.
When alternating current is used with argon, an arc cleaning action is produced at the joint on aluminum and magnesium. This action removes oxides and is particularly beneficial in reducing the porosity when welding aluminum. When using direct current, helium may be used as the shielding gas to produce deeper penetration. Argon and helium mixtures for gas shielding can provide some of the benefits of both gases.
Regardless of the polarity, a constant current welding power source is required. In addition, a high-frequency oscillator is also incorporated in power. High-frequency can be employed with direct current to initiate the arc.
Some power sources provide pulsating direct current with variable frequency. This provision permits control of the molten weld pool while welding thin sections, as well as while welding in positions other than flat. Pulse repetition rates adjustable as are the pulse profiles. The latter are necessary to eliminate craters and crater cracking at the beginning and ends of welds. For manual welding much of this power supply sophistication is not used, because the skilled welder modifies his technique as he observes variations in the weld pool during the progress of the welding.
Melting followed by fusion of the weld joint results the flow of electrons, and the very high temperature of the arc plasma which the current passes and which provides the conductance path. Most often direct current is used but alternating current is advantageous for welding materials which refractory oxides, for example aluminum.
